*Mysteries* (1978) is a Dutch psychological drama directed by Paul de Lussanet, based on the novel by Nobel laureate Knut Hamsun. Set in a small coastal village on the Isle of Man in 1891, the film follows Johan Nagel (Rutger Hauer), a wealthy and enigmatic stranger who arrives in town and disrupts the lives of its inhabitants. His interactions with the locals, particularly his romantic entanglements with two women (Sylvia Kristel and Rita Tushingham), and his friendship with a dwarf (David Rappaport), lead to a series of mysterious events that challenge the villagers' perceptions of reality and morality.
