*Swing* is a 1938 American race film directed, produced, and written by Oscar Micheaux. The film follows Mandy Jenkins (Cora Green), an African American cook for a wealthy white family in Birmingham, Alabama, who discovers her husband Cornell's affair with Eloise Jackson (Hazel Diaz). After a confrontation, Eloise relocates to Harlem, New York City, and adopts the stage name Cora Smith to pursue a career as a cabaret vocalist. Mandy also moves to New York, finding work as a wardrobe mistress at the same cabaret. When Eloise suffers an injury, Mandy steps in as a last-minute substitute and becomes a Broadway star. The film explores themes of infidelity, ambition, and personal transformation.
