*Shadows of a Hot Summer* (*Stíny horkého léta*; 1978) is a Czechoslovak thriller directed by František Vláčil. Set in 1947, the film follows Ondřej Baran, a shepherd living with his family in the Beskydy mountains. Their peaceful life is disrupted when a group of Ukrainian nationalist guerillas occupy their farm, demanding shelter and medical assistance. As tensions rise, Ondřej is forced to confront the invaders to protect his family. The film explores themes of resistance, morality, and the human cost of war. It won the Crystal Globe at the 1978 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
