DESCRIPTION:

Beautiful Lady Alice Brookfield is revolted by the thought of her upcoming forced marriage to the heinous Lord Churlton. She is rescued by the infamous highwayman Dick Turpin who, dressing her as a boy, is able to steal her away from the nobleman's heavily-armed guards. An enraged Lord Churlton and a large company of soldiers set out in hot pursuit as his Lordship is determined to have his way with the innocent Lady Brookfield and send Dick Turpin to the gallows.

The story of Dick Turpin, the English highwayman executed in 1739 for horse theft, quickly turned to legend. First appearing in the penny dreadfuls, the story would make its way to literature, the stage and finally the movies numerous times. In this well mounted William Fox production, Tom Mix takes a turn as the infamous outlaw. Already thirty when he began his acting career, Mix had been a soldier, a sheriff, a drum major, and a rider in wild west shows. Signing with Fox in 1917 after a stint at Selig Pictures, Mix was a serious box office draw through the end of the silent era. With the transition to talking pictures his film work dwindled and Mix returned to what he loved - riding on the wild west circuit. Alan Hale was a staple character actor for Warner Brothers appearing in over 100 films in the 1930s and 1940s, most notably as Little John in the towering classic The Adventures Of Robin Hood (1938).
