Directed by Ludwig Berger

Print: Black and White
Runtime:50 min.
Genre: Fantasy

This German version of the famous fairy tale Cinderella owes as much to Fritz Lang's "Wagnerian" films as it does to the original story. Helga Thomas stars as Cinderella, here a well-proportioned Nordic blonde who looks as though she could cut the heads off of her wicked stepsisters. The royal ball finale was staged on a grand scale, with enormous wall tapestries, royal gardens the size of Versailles, and a full complement of fireworks greeting the arrival of the Prince. Cinderella was brought to the U.S. under the auspices of Film Associates, Inc. Its board of directors included such notable patrons of the arts as pop-culture critic Gilbert Seldes, Lawrence Langner of the Theater Guild, and Kenneth McGowan, author of the pioneering motion-picture history book Behind the Screen.
