The lawless Kern brothers ride into Red Rock with an army of hired gunslingers. They seize control of the town, forcing the local citizens to work as slaves in their gold mine. Texas Rangers Dave and Tex organize a vigilante group in a desperate attempt to take Red Rock back by force.

Gangsters of the Frontier was the 15th Texas Ranger feature produced by PRC and the first to feature Tex Ritter joining Dave O'Brien and Guy Wilkerson. The trio ended their run together with Flaming Bullets (1945), after which Ritter took a five year break from making pictures to focus on a country music career.
