DESCRIPTION:
What do the most ravishingly beautiful actress of the 1930s and 40s and the inventor whose concepts were the basis of cell phone and bluetooth technology have in common? They are both Hedy Lamarr, the glamour icon whose ravishing visage was the inspiration for Snow White and Cat Woman and a technological trailblazer who perfected a radio system to throw Nazi torpedoes off course during WWII. Weaving interviews and clips with never-before-heard audio tapes of Hedy speaking on the record about her incredible life—from her beginnings as an Austrian Jewish emigre to her scandalous nude scene in the 1933 film Ecstasy to her glittering Hollywood life to her ground-breaking, but completely uncredited inventions to her latter years when she became a recluse, impoverished and almost forgotten—BOMBSHELL: THE HEDY LAMARR STORY brings to light the story of an unusual and accomplished woman, spurned as too beautiful to be smart, but a role model to this day. DESCRIPTION:
The incomparable Fred Astaire teams with lithesome and beguiling Vera-Ellen in this lavish turn-of-the-century musical delight. Cast as a free-spirited playboy, Astaire narrowly escapes marriage to a showbiz siren before chancing upon a delectable Bowery mission worker (Vera-Ellen). This time, buoyed by the wings of "true love," he finds himself literally dancing on air -- up, up and away above the city rooftops and onto the Washington Square Arch! To prove his worth to this skeptical Daughter of the Right ("It's the uptrodden who need saving these days," he tells her), Astaire goes to work, first as a streetcar conductor, then as a song-and-dance waiter at a fancy restaurant. While trying to resolve their differences, the stars perform dazzling dance routines to Johnny Mercer and Harry Warren's warmly nostalgic score. Among the highlights are a spectacular sequence inspired by colorful Currier and Ives artwork, Vera-Ellen's steamy "Naughty but Nice" and Astaire's knockout "I Wanna Be a Dancin' Man." Learn More -

DESCRIPTION:
Volker Schlndorff transported Bertolt Brecht's 1918 debut play to contemporary West Germany for this vicious experiment in adaptation, seldom seen for nearly half a century. Oozing with brutish charisma, Rainer Werner Fassbinder embodies the eponymous anarchist poet, who feels himself cast out from bourgeois society and sets off on a schnapps-soaked rampage. Hewing faithfully to Brecht's text, Schlndorff juxtaposes the theatricality of the prose with bare-bones, handheld 16 mm camera work, which gives immediacy to this savage story of rebellion. Featuring a supporting cast of Fassbinder's troupe of theater actors as well as Margarethe von Trotta, Baal demonstrates the uncompromising nature of Schlndorff's vision and forged a path for New German Cinema.
