    DESCRIPTION:

The heartless Count Grevan plunders ancient burial grounds in search of treasure, with little regard for the cost to his soul. Deep in the heart of India, he steals the Buddha from the holy temple at Djaba. Returning to his castle in Germany, he is visited by a ghostly apparition, who warns him that death will strike seven years hence. What follows is years of debauchery, in which Grevan drowns himself in drink and wild parties. As the deadline rapidly approaches, the Count haughtily believes he has outwitted his fate. The specter of death who visited him that night many years ago knows otherwise An overlooked masterpiece of early German Expressionism, Fear features many of the same themes of madness, paranoia and deceit as director Robert Wiene's later classic, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920). It is also the earliest known work of Conrad Veidt, who garnered worldwide acclaim for his portrayal of Cesare the Somnambulist in Caligari. One of the highest-paid actors in Germany, Veidt would leave his home country to escape Nazi oppression in 1933. Settling in America, he made unforgettable performances in The Man Who Laughs (1928), The Thief of Bagdad (1940) and Casablanca (1942) before his far too young death in 1943. This version of Fear features an original music score composed by Joseph Martin. Learn More

Photographers Pat Marvin and Larry Burke are desperate to save the newspaper they work for. In an attempt to drum up business, they try to get a snapshot of socialite Cynthia Van Loan, who has never been photographed. Instead they catch her fiance, Carl Pauling, with another woman. Anxious to get the picture published, the pair rush back to the office only to find their editor murdered. Pauling will go to any length to prevent his infidelity from being exposed, and it's only a matter of time before Pat and Larry find themselves staring down the barrel of his gun... Danger Street was promoted as the first "grown-up" movie for child star Jane Withers. After starring alongside Shirley Temple in Bright Eyes (1934) at the age of eight, she spent the rest of the '30's playing kid roles in countless 'B' pictures. Despite receiving a $375,000 trust fund on her 21rst birthday in 1947, Withers was anxious to prove herself as a serious dramatic actress. Co-star Robert Lowery portrayed the Caped Crusader in the 1949 Batman and Robin serial, and later starred as Big Tim Champion on the TV series Circus Boy (1956-1957). Director Lew Landers worked for nearly every studio in Hollywood making low-budget thrillers (The Raven, Tokyo Rose) and later turned his attention to television, directing popular series like Topper (1953-1955) and Highway Patrol (1955-1959).
