Since she's supposed to play a fisher-maiden in a new comic opera, actress Helen Arthur (Gertrude McCoy) goes to the coast to do research. Skipper Rex Bristol (Earl Schenck) falls for her, so she strings him along and then leaves him flat. The two encounter each other again when he becomes the captain of a yacht owned by the wealthy but idle John Leonard (Robert Clugston). When Leonard tries to have his way with Helen, Rex steps in and saves her. Rex still doesn't get anywhere with her. Then -- rather unbelievably -- Rex and Helen meet once again, this time on an ocean liner where he is a wireless operator and she's a passenger. The ship wrecks, and Rex and Helen are cast away on an island. He claims that as a captain, he can marry himself to her, so they become husband and wife and spend several years together, becoming parents along the way. But finally, Helen -- who was never all that thrilled with this arrangement -- takes an opportunity to be rescued and leaves the island with her child. She goes back to her old life and career, but after awhile, her callousness wears thin, and she becomes conscience-stricken. She decides to return to the island and rescue her hubby, so they are reunited.
